My Amazing Mentor!

Hi everyone and welcome to my third blog!

This summer, I am working with a mentor from 3M to help me improve and expand my project, DR-Check. My mentor’s name is Dr. Kannan Seshadri, and he has been helping me with sorting my ideas, going through the scientist notebook together, as well as helping me collect the 3M product that I want to use!

Having access to a 3M scientist like Dr. Kannan has been extremely useful and exciting and I am so grateful that I am getting to work with him! I enjoy getting to meet and talk with my mentor every week. During our calls, Dr. Kannan always listens to the ideas and plans that I have, to proceed with my project. But the best part is that after I tell him, he will give me his opinion on the solutions or ideas that I thought of for the problems I faced. It is nice to get critiqued by someone who has lots of experience with experimenting and solving real world problems!

At this point, I am proud of what I have accomplished. Having a mentor like Dr. Kannan helps me keep going even when I have a hard time with something; so now, I have started to build my device and even started altering some parts of it!

As I was testing it out, I came across the problem where the images of the retina didn’t come out clearly. While I researched ways to make the image clearer and why I wasn’t getting a good image, I started to think about 3M products that could help me with this, and I have found a product that could help me achieve a clearer image.

My favorite part of the 3M Young Scientist Challenge so far, has probably been getting to meet with the finalists and also getting to talk to them in the group chat. It is nice to know that there are other people also putting in all their effort and having the drive and passion to solve a problem in the world like I am. I also really enjoy getting to write these blogs. Writing these blogs are almost like a self-check for my progress and a nice way to discuss all of my work with my mentor.

Thank you for watching my vlog! Hope you have a great day and see you next time!
